BBVA CIB expands its Project Finance business with key hire in New York
BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) continues its strategic expansion in the U.S. with the appointment of Eugene Kasozi as Managing Director for Project Finance, based in New York. This hire strengthens BBVA’s growing presence in the structured finance space.
With close to 30 years of Project Finance experience, Kasozi joins BBVA after serving as Head of Energy and Infrastructure for North America at Credit Agricole, where he led a team focused on origination, structuring, and execution in energy and infrastructure finance. Previously, he was Head of Power and Renewables for Credit Agricole in London.
In his new role at BBVA, he will serve as a senior member of the New York-based project finance team, where he will play a pivotal role in expanding client services in Project Finance under the direction of Miguel Pena as Head of Project Finance for US and Canada.
“We are thrilled to have Eugene on board as we strengthen our product offering in the U.S.,” said Regina Gil Hernández, Head of BBVA CIB USA. “His extensive experience in Project Finance will be crucial as we deepen our relationships with institutional and corporate clients, delivering tailored solutions to support their investments. This appointment underscores BBVA’s commitment to anticipating client needs and enhancing our presence in the U.S.”
Jaime Artola, Global Head of Structured Finance, commented: “The U.S. market is a strategic priority for BBVA and our Project Finance franchise. Over the past three years, we have achieved significant growth, securing a position among the top 10 Project Finance lenders in the U.S., as per Refinitiv's September 2024 YTD data. Our team now covers all sectors, and Eugene’s expertise will be instrumental in further elevating our client engagement and market position.”
This appointment is part of BBVA’s broader strategy to establish specialized teams in key markets, enabling the bank to deliver more impactful solutions across structured finance, securitized products, and balance sheet solutions.
As BBVA CIB USA continues to invest in talent and expand its capabilities, the bank is solidifying its role as a trusted global partner for U.S. clients in Project Finance and beyond.
