BBVA leads the corporate lending market in Latin America and Mexico in 2023

Over the past year, the bank has been present in the most important operations in both regions.


Once again, BBVA demonstrates its leadership in the corporate lending market in Latin America and Mexico in 2023. According to data compiled by Refinitiv, the bank tops the ranking of corporate syndicated loans in both regions, consolidating its position as a key financial partner for leading companies in Latin America, where BBVA led 44 transactions as book runner worth $5.344 billion.

In recent years, BBVA has reaffirmed its commitment to the Latin American region, where the firm has unparalleled experience and a proven track record in leading, structuring and arranging debt facilities for corporate clients. Through its leading position in prominent geographies such as Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Chile and Argentina, and an active presence in Brazil and Uruguay, BBVA has managed to become a key player in the market by offering its clients a wide range of debt alternatives, including Acquisition Finance, Structured and Project Finance, GCP, and Corporate Financial Advisory.

Mexico, a market on the rise

BBVA Mexico is the undisputed leader in this market in the area of investment banking. The firm is considered the leading financial advisor in M&A and the leading financial advisor in Equity Capital Markets (according to the number of transactions), as well as the leading financial advisor in syndicated loans, the leading financial advisor in project finance and the leading financial advisor in DCM (in terms of transaction value).

BBVA Mexico's Investment Banking and Finance division, with a team of 86 professionals, is the largest in the region. During 2023, BBVA Mexico's Corporate Lending franchise continued to lead the structuring and syndication of syndicated transactions for its clients in Mexico, maintaining its position as a national benchmark for excellence in the underwriting, structuring and distribution of corporate credit facilities. Last year, this line of business maintained its leadershipin the syndicated credit operations market for the eighth year on a row, acting as book runner in 37 transactions, worth €4.818 billion, representing a 26.2% share in the Mexican syndicated loan market.

In line with its sustainability goals, BBVA has become a pioneering bank in the promotion of sustainable finance in Latin America since 2018. Its commitment is reflected in the nine transactions carried out by the Mexican Corporate Lending team, in which BBVA acted as a sustainable agent during 2023.
