Global Finance recognizes BBVA’s leadership in investment banking at its annual awards
Global Finance has awarded BBVA four prestigious accolades, recognizing the bank for its excellence in investment banking in Mexico, Spain, and Colombia, as well as for its leadership in debt financing across Latin America.
BBVA has been honored in the 26th edition of Global Finance’s Best Investment Banks Awards 2025, reaffirming its position as a benchmark in investment banking. The institution received awards for Best Debt Bank in Latin America and Best Investment Bank in Spain, Mexico, and Colombia.
This recognition comes at a time of economic volatility and uncertainty, where investment banking plays a crucial role in financing businesses and institutions. In this context, Joseph D. Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance, highlighted that “The investment banking sector remains strong but faces headwinds from continued high interest rates—despite some easing—as well as regulatory scrutiny and geopolitical uncertainties that impact deal-making.” However, he noted that “banks are seeing growth in advisory services and capital markets, particularly in sectors like technology and renewable energy.”
A global model with a local focus
BBVA’s investment banking division has demonstrated its leadership through its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a resilient business model that combines a global vision with deep local expertise. This strategy enables the bank to offer financial solutions tailored to the specific needs of each market.
“At BBVA CIB, we believe in investment banking that combines excellence, sustainability, and innovation. This award is a testament to the trust our clients place in us and the dedication of the entire BBVA CIB team. It confirms our ability to deliver strategic solutions to our clients and lead the transformation of the financial sector,” said José Ramón Vizmanos, Head of BBVA CIB in Spain.
Meanwhile, Álvaro Vaqueiro, Head of BBVA CIB in Mexico, emphasized: “In an environment of challenges, our adaptability and commitment to excellence have allowed us to establish ourselves as the leading investment bank in the country.”
From Colombia, Carlos Alberto Rodríguez, Head of BBVA CIB in the country, added, “This award recognizes BBVA’s commitment to Colombia, reinforcing our mission to support businesses with strategic financial solutions aligned with sustainable growth.”
