Sectoral specialization, BBVA CIB’s key to boosting sustainability
In an increasingly demanding business environment focused on long-term sustainable growth, BBVA CIB implements a highly specialized sectoral approach that allows it to become a key strategic ally in the energy transition of its wholesale clients.
In a business environment that demands the transition to more sustainable production models and adherence to global regulatory standards that set the standard in terms of ESG, sustainability emerges as a key element to face a volatile world influenced by global events.
BBVA CIB has a relationship model that focuses on the sustainability of production models and seeks to accompany clients by establishing solid and long-term relationships. In this context, sectoral specialization emerges as a differential factor for investment banking, allowing support and differential advisory to its clients while giving them a competitive advantage within an increasingly complex and demanding financial sector.
BBVA CIB has a relationship model that focuses on the sustainability of production models and seeks to accompany clients by establishing solid and long-term relationships.
BBVA's investment banking division has materialized this need for highly specialized advice in a holistic sector segmentation of its clients with the aim of offering solutions based on the in-depth knowledge acquired through the global presence of the teams and their experience in the field. BBVA CIB's advisory model is structured around seven key industries in order to manage the opportunities arising from the energy transition in a more proactive manner, with a special focus on the sectors with the highest emissions.
How is the sectoral model of BBVA CIB structured?
This approach has led BBVA CIB to implement a verticalization of its services and reinforce its position as a specialist in key industries that, due to the different challenges that each of them presents, require specialized attention and knowledge. This approach allows the bank to accompany clients more efficiently and increase the strategic dialogue with them, addressing their main business needs.
Within the framework of this model, BBVA CIB has appointed global sector heads in those industries that have been defined as priorities because they are key axes in current sustainability trends: consumer, retail and healthcare; energy; industry and transportation; infrastructure and construction; technology, media and communications (TMT); financial institutions; and financial sponsors. This segmentation allows the bank to be the strategic partner that accompanies its wholesale clients in their strategic decisions thanks to a more personalized and expert service, aligning its resources with the specific needs of each sector. To support these sector bankers, there are also dedicated sustainability and ESG advisory teams that provide the necessary support to address client specific sustainability needs.
As Antonio Bravo, Global Head of CIB Strategy, Industries & Cross-border at BBVA CIB, points out: "The decarbonization of the economy represents the greatest disruption in history, not only because of the magnitude of the challenge but also because of the large investment it will require. With this specialized sector-related advisory, we want to proactively take advantage of the opportunities presented by the energy transition and make them available to our wholesale clients in depth and with specificity."
